Summertime to me, is synonymous with ocean air and salty, wild hair. It's cold watermelon and even colder ice cream cones. Summer means barefoot walks, long evening talks (watching a peachy sunset, of course) and just an undeniable sense of ease and laid-backness.
This translates to my beauty routine, too. I want less time looking in my vanity mirror— so just some sheer CC cream and lip balm, it is! And I want to spend even less time blow drying my hair, because that sweaty neck heat is unbearable once July hits. So I opt for quick hairstyles, usually up off my back (again, with the heat!) and I always seem to be sporting air dried waves.
This lazy approach to beauty is fine, until I want to feel a little more put together and little less dreadlocked (my beachy hair can get wild FAST). Since we all have pool parties and social events to attend to during the warmer months, my quickest fix is to accessorize smartly. Accessories will elevate your look in (literally) two seconds. Here are my favorites:
1. Hair Scarf:
Scarves will never NOT be totally chic. Tie one around a low bun, a topknot, a flowy ponytail, or to secure a braid. Knot one around the top of your head, as a pseudo headband. Scarves in hair will always be so 1960's Italian Vogue, and I'm obsessed. I love the summery cornflower blue of this scarf. And this one makes me want to go on an impromptu picnic!
2. Big Straw Hat:
Days spent at the pool will be made epic when you show up with this hat on! Big straw hats are always a good idea. Always. This one even has yellow ribbon attached, to tie below your chin! Heart eyes.
I have bad memories of visors. What comes to mind, is the era of the Backstreet Boys. When people did wild things, like wearing their visors upside-down and backwards. Sometimes the hats were even pink and furry. Puka shell necklaces were worn... These were dark times.
But the times have changed (THANK GOODNESS), and the visor is back. But all grown up and gracefully refined. I'm so on board with this one and this one! These would look so good paired with a few gold stacked necklaces and bronzy summer skin.
4. Ball Cap:
Scrunchies are great because 1. they're super gentle on your hair, and 2. they're the best addition to a messy topknot, coming in lots of fun colors and textures. Also, if you're like me and store spare elastics on your wrist for safekeeping, scrunchies won't cut off circulation (no one likes a dead wrist). I always have a scrunchie on hand during pool/beach days. I love this striped option! And this floral print is so darling.
Enjoy these summery, breezy months! They're fast coming and fast going. Keep them light, and laughter-filled and full of amazing hair accessorizing.
