Are You Cleaning Your Hair Brushes? Here's How Often You Should Be + How!

If you are anything like us, you may have not known just how important it is to clean your hair brushes.. Dirt, oil, & product buildup are all things that tend to build up excessively in our hairbrushes, and that directly translates to our hair. Remember, scalp health is hair health!! Wondering why your hair is getting greasy fast? Or maybe locks are looking frizzy... Your brush may need a good cleaning! Keep reading to see how we properly clean our hair brushes at home.

How To:

Step 1: Remove excess hair in bristles with your hands, or even a tweezer!

Step 2: Fill your sink or a bowl up with warm soapy water.

Step 3: Let your hairbrush soak in warm soapy water for around 10 minutes.

*BFB Tip: Wood or bamboo hair brushes should not be left to soak. Instead skip this step & move on to cleaning things with a tooth brush and a little water.*

Step 4: Once done, rinse with clean water & you're done! You can even use a toothbrush to clean brushless individually.

Step 5: Set hairbrush, bristles down, on a towel to dry overnight.

How often do I need to clean my hair brush?

Generally, if your hair brush is covered in hair & you can visibly see dirty or dust, it's time to give it a good cleaning. However, it is generally recommended to clean your hair brushes every 2-4 weeks. Yep, that's right. At least once or twice a week is ideal! If you are someone who uses a lot of product (dry shampoo, hair oils, hair spray, etc) you may need to get to washing sooner rather than later.
